[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v).] In a control system for an internal-combustion engine, the fuel supply and switches controlling an electric starting motor and a cooling pump motor are arranged so that before the starting motor is operated the cooling pump is switched on, and can only be switched off simultaneously with or subsequently to cutting off the fuel supply. At starting, a switch 17 is moved from a position O, in which the sliding contacts A .. F break circuit, to a position to energize (1) an electromagnet 20 which closes a switch 5 to start the cooling pump motor 2, and (2) an electromagnet 22 which operates a slide valve 14 that controls the supply of fluid to a servomotor 11 which regulates the fuel injection devices. The switch 17 is then moved into a position Q to close the contacts A, B in the leads of an electromagnet 21 which closes a switch 8 controlling the starting motor 19. When the switch 17 is returned to the position O the switch 5 remains closed and the circuit to the electromagnet 20 is completed through a switch 35. To stop the engine the switch 17 is moved into the position R to close the contacts E, F and energize the electromagnet 23 of the servomotor associated with the fuel supply. The switch 38 is then opened by hand to stop the cooling pump. If the switch 38 is prematurely depressed and thus opens the switch 5 of the cooling pump 2, the switch 39 then closes and actuates the servomotor to cut off the fuel supply. An independent handoperated switch 6 may be used to close the circuit of the cooling pump.
