Abstract

465,660. Starting prime movers. C. A. V.-BOSCH, Ltd., and MUIR, J. M. Nov. 11, 1935, No. 31122. [Class 38 (iv)] Electric starting mechanism 4, Fig. 2, for internal-combustion engines of the compression ignition type having fuel injection pumps 2 controlled by a governor, is rendered inoperative, except when the pump 2 and engine are not running, by a switch a which acts also as a stop regulating the fuel supply when starting. The combined stop and switch, Fig. 1, includes a movable part i biassed by a spring k so as to separate contacts j, e in the starter circuit, the contacts being closed only when the plunger b regulating the stroke of the pumps under the control of the governor is moved to the right when the engine stops. The part C carrying contact e may be screwed in or out thus acting as a stop for the plunger b and so controlling the rate of delivery from the fuel pump when starting.
