Abstract
261,022. Soc. des Magnetos R. B. Nov. 7, 1925, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.- To prevent waste of fuel when the engine is rotated by the kinetic energy of the vehicle, e.g. on down grades, a valve controlled by electric current supplied by a generator driven by the engine is provided to automatically cut off the supply of fuel to or from the slow-running nozzle when the engine reaches a predetermined speed. As shown, the outlet from the slowrunning nozzle 2 is controlled by a valve 5 held open by a spring 6 or by gravity, and closed by an electro-magnet 7 which attracts a soft-iron disc 8 on the valve spindle when the engine reaches a certain speed. In carburettors in which the slow-running nozzle also supplies fuel for accelerating, means are provided to prevent the closing of the nozzle when the main nozzle is in action; the means may comprise a cam on the throttle valve spindle acting on a bell-crank lever one arm of which bears against the disc 8 when the throttle is open, or a contact piece on the controlling-gear of the throttle valve may out off the current to the valve controlling the slowrunning nozzle when the throttle is in the normal running position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also modifications in which the valve 5 is operated either by a centrifugal governor driven from the engine, or by a piston operating in a cylinder to which a fluid under pressure is supplied by an engine-driven pump, e.g. a pump employed in connection with the lubricating or cooling system. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
