723,617. Starting prime movers. SANDERS, A, F. Nov. 23, 1953 [Dec. 10, 1952], No. 31247/52. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXVII] The pressure in the pipe between a pump 24, for supplying starting fuel to an engine, and a fuel injection valve 15 is arranged to act on a pressure-operated switch 32 that serves as the engine starting switch (see also Group XXVII). When starting under low-temperature conditions the normal starting switch 20 is not used but instead the pump is actuated to supply the starting liquid to the valve 15 and the switch 32, closure of which latter short-circuits the switch 20 so energizing an electromagnet 19 and closing the associated switch 22 to complete a circuit from the battery through the starting motor 18. A similar procedure may always be employed when starting a low-compression engine in which case the normal starting switch is dispensed with.
