Abstract

910,894. Testing fuel injectors. HARTRIDGE Ltd., LESLIE. April 27, 1961 [April 27, 1960; July 19, 1960], Nos. 14759/60 and 25125/60. Class 7(3) In a device for testing fuel injectors comprising a manually operated pump 14, Fig. 2, for supplying liquid under pressure to the injector through a duct 30, and a pressure gauge 33 connected to the duct, a restrictor valve is provided in the duct 30. The pump is connected by a pipe 28 to a valve block 29, Figs. 2 and 4, having an outlet 30 leading to the injector and an outlet 32 leading to the pressure gauge. A restrictor valve 39 may be closed to disconnect the injector pipe 30 from the pump when testing to see if leakage occurs at the injector valve seat or along its stem, and partly closed when testing the pressure at which the injector valve opens to restrict the rate at which the pressure applied to the valve by the pump rises. A second restrictor valve 48 may be closed or partly closed to disconnect the gauge 33 from the pressure line 30 or its connection thereto. A stop watch 36 is provided to time the rate of pressure drop during a leakage test. The injector under test is supported in a stand so that it injects into a hood 31 provided with an extractor fan 57 driven by an air turbine, to remove the spray which is condensed and returned to a tank 59 supplying the pump 14.
