Abstract

244,347. Gardner, J. June 25, 1924. Heating charge.-In engines using heavy viscous fuels, the fuel on its way to the cylinder is heated, to facilitate its flow through the pipes, in a chamber in which the production of an excessive temperature is avoided. The chamber is formed in a casting adapted to be bolted by flange a and holes b to the water-jacketed combustion chamber at the point where the exhaust pipe c is situated, such pipe passing through the heater. The fuel enters at d, passes through a removable strainer e and leaves at f. A weir g provides a sump, impurities in which can be drained through a cock h. Another cock on the strainer cover i, provides for the escape of air from the heater at starting.
