Heating by indirect contact of hot waste gases.-In a vertical tubular boiler heated by the waste gases from an internal - combustion engine, the waste gases are directed into the heating chamber C with a whirling motion from an annular chamber F having upwardly directed outlet passages E, which are outwardly and laterally inclined. The top of the annular chamber is formed in four parts and has inclined box-shaped extensions g<1> containing the outlet passages. An oil burner J is used to heat the boiler at starting and when the supply of waste gases is insufficient.
