Spray carburettors.-The carburretor is of the type in which a rich mixture of fuel and air is admitted into the main air body flowing towards the throttle valve. According to the invention, the main air enters through a series of progressively loaded spring valves so that on an increase of load the consequent fall in the velocity of the air current allows one or more of the air valves to close and the mixture thus becomes richer. The air valves 9 are split rings secured at 10 by a tube 6 and closing against the pipe 4. The primary air enters at 20 and passes under the lower edge of the Venturi tube 18 to pick up fuel that may drip from the nozzle 19; air also flows through small ports around the top of the Venturi tube. The throttle valve 1 of the rotary plug tvpe has a passage 15 in its outer surface to allow the fuel to impinge on the plug 50 when the throttle is nearly closed. There is also a throttle valve 24 in the rich mixture passage which may be coupled to the main throttle. The main throttle may be of the butterfly type, and the valve 24 may work in an adjustable ported sleeve. There may be a passage in the casing 13 of the main throttle to allow mixture to flow into the induction pipe past the trailing edge of the throttle when the latter is nearly closed.
