Abstract
156,307. Drayton, T. J. B. Sept. 26, 1919. Spray carburettors. - A suction-actuated main air valve 1 carries on its stem 4 an adjustable inclined plate 9 on which bears one end of a bell-crank 7, the other end engaging directly a fuel valve 8. The lower end 2 of the air-valve stem moves in a tube 3 and acts as a dashpot; the valve is prevented from turning by a projection 5. A long nut 11 in the end 2 is movable by a graduated dial 12, and bears on the plate 9, so that the relative movement of the fuel and air valves may be varied; as the bellcrank bears on a sleeve 14 on the fuel valve, a second adjusting means is provided. The float chamber 16 is closed to the atmosphere except through a controllable port 20, Fig. 1, and is connected to the induction pipe 22 by a channel 21; the flow of fuel is therefore dependent on the engine suction. The fuel leaves the float chamber by a hole 25 past the valve 8 to a tube 26, which leads to the fuel nozzle 28 placed in a small mixing chamber; additional air enters between the coned tubes 33, 34, and the mixture passes through the exhaust heated pipe 29 to an annular passage 36, which is connected with the main induction pipe by holes 39. The rich mixture passing through these holes is added to the main air supplied past the valve 1. A coned ring 15, which is replaceable by rings of various inclinations, forms with the valve 1 a constricted passage for the main air.
