Abstract

285,288. A.M.A.C., Ltd., and Bowen, H. H. May 11, 1927. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor comprises a horizontal main passage controlled by a tubular throttle valve 3 which slides over a fixed block 5 which is intersected by the main passage and carries at its lower end the fuel nozzle 6. This nozzle is supplied through a metered orifice 70 and its outlet is controlled by a needle valve 8 adjustably secured to the throttle valve. The fuel, before it reaches the main passage, is mixed in a choke tube 10 with air entering by radial apertures 11 from an annular chamber 12 to which it is supplied from the atmosphere through a port 16 controlled by an independently actuated piston valve 14. A by-pass is described which discharges on the engine side of the throttle, and comprises a metered fuel-inlet orifice between which and the discharge outlet, air is admitted, past an adjustable valve. The amount of air so admitted may be sufficient to oppose entirely the fuel flow from the orifice.
