Abstract

258,050. Owers, J. C. Feb. 25, 1926. Spray carburettors.-The fuel valve 13 is adjustably attached to a suction-actuated air valve 4 loaded by a spring 14, the load on the spring being automatically varied according to the difference between the vacuum in the mixing chamber and in the induction pipe between the throttle valve and the engine through the action of a piston 24, the lower side of which bears upon the spring 14, and the upper side of which is acted upon by a spring 15 and is subject to the vacuum in the induction pipe through a pipe 25. The pipe 25 is provided with a ball valve 26 to prevent the return of air above the piston 24 between the induction strokes of the engine. The fuel needle is attached to a dash-pot piston 12 working in a chamber 11 to which fuel is supplied through a conduit 20, the outlet of fuel from the chamber being controlled by a valve 18 on the fuel needle. The air valve 4 coacts with an adjustable conical sleeve 3, and is provided with air-inlet passages 27 and with a fuel deflector 28. An exhaust jacket 8 surrounds the air inlet. The mixing-chamber is provided with gauze 30 to atomize the charge.
