Abstract
658,175. Spray carburetters. SOLEX. Feb. 11, 1947, No. 3993. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1946. '[Class 7(iii)] A carburetter of the kind suitable for use with an engine having more than four cylinders is adapted for an engine having four cylinders or less by the provision of corrector means to increase the fuel supply at full throttle, high speed operation. In Fig. 2, the mixture strength at full throttle is kept constant by. controlling the fuel flow through an auxiliary jet 47 by a needle 51 connected to a suction-actuated diaphragm 50 which also forms an acceleration pump. The chamber 49 is connected to a chamber 55 having orifices 56, 57 leading to the induction pipe on opposite sides of the throttle valve 7, the suction in which causes the filling stroke of the pump when the throttle 7 is closed and the desired correction of the mixture strength with varying speed at full trottle. In modifications the needle 51 is contoured to cut off fuel flow through the jet 47 when the throttle is partially closed, or the needle 51 may control the main jet 3. Specifications 603,296 and 610,046 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes further embodiments in which a needle valve 9, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), is actuated by an air-flow responsive plate 15 or a suction-actuated piston or diaphragm to reduce the emulsifying air entering at 6, and also comprises the subject-matter of Specification 658,207. A suction-actuated valve may also control the flow of emulsifying air through a pipe connecting the air intake 12 to the lower part 5 of the nozzle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specifiaction as accepted.
