Abstract

565,242. Spray carburetters. BROWN, C., and AMAL, Ltd. April 28, 1943, No. 6699. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter in which a tubular throttle valve 14 slides on a cylindrical block 21 and carries a needle valve 15 controlling a nozzle 16 to which fuel is supplied through a submerged jet 17, a chamber 28 housing the nozzle and jet is disposed in the float chamber 2 in close proximity to the float valve mechanism 3, the arrangement avoiding interruption of the fuel supply when the carburetter is tilted or the fuel subjected to surges. The carburetter comprises a lower portion 2, constituting the float chamber, to which is secured in fluid- 'tight manner a top portion 1 carrying the control valve mechanisms which are housed mainly in a cylindrical extension 12. An inlet 31 for air for forming rich mixture leads from the main air inlet 10 to a space 34 around the fuel nozzle 16 and the rich mixture is drawn by air entering the main inlet 10 through an horizontal bore 22 in the cylinder block 21 to the mixture passage 9. A strangler valve 18, as described in Specification 307,675, [Class 7 (iii)], provides for adjustment of the main air supply and facilitates starting. The lower part of the chamber 28 may carry an acceleration pump 29 as described in Specification 331,889, [Class 7 (iii)]. A nozzle 35 supplies fuel for idling, air being drawn from the main air inlet through passages in the block 21 to a passage 41 behind the throttle valve 14, the minimum opening position of which is adjusted by a stop formed as described in Specification 293,935, [Class 7 (iii)]. The float chamber vents into the main air inlet and a filter &c. on an elbow extension 50 fitted thereon screens all the interior of the carburetter from dust &c. Specification 287,743, [Class 7 (iii)], is referred to.
