Abstract

703,393. Spray carburetters. MARCHANT, W. A. Aug. 25, 1950 [May 25, 1949; May 25, 1949], Nos. 13917/49 and 13921/49. Class 7(3) A device for delaying the commencement of fuel flow from a carburetter jet comprises a chamber 1 connected to atmosphere by a bleed orifice 2 and by a pipe 15 to a chamber around the fuel jet open to engine intake suction, e.g. the fuel jet chamber shown in Fig. 3 of Specification 556,205. On each engine suction stroke the chamber 1 delays the build-up of suction in the chamber around the fuel jet and hence delays the point at which fuel begins to flow from the jet. The chamber 1 may be connected directly to the pipe 15 or, as shown, through a chamber 3 having an air inlet valve 12 which is opened by a suctionoperated diaphragm 8 to prevent the suction in the chamber 1 exceeding a predetermined value. The orifice 2 may be a fixed orifice or it may be adjusted in relation to engine speed or throttle position, e.g. by a suction-actuated valve.
