Abstract

144,363. Grace, C. J. March 6, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Liquid fuel is supplied from a float chamber to the hollow spindle 3 of the throttle valve 2 and issues through radial passages 9 in the valve at starting and during normal running through passages 8 which register in succession as the valve opens with a slot 10 in the spindle. The valve and spindle are connected through link-work, Fig. 4. A lever 22 on the spindle carries a link 23 attached to a vertically sliding block 20 to which a lever 14 on the valve is also connected by a link 18, a pin on the end of which slides in a slot 15 in the lever 14. In Fig. 4, the pin is shown at the inner end of the slot, consequently the spindle turns through a very small angle relatively to that through which the valve moves and passages 9, 11 are put out of register while the passages 8, 10 are gradually brought into register. When the pin is at the outer end of the slot both valve and spindle move at the same rate and the passages 9, 11 remain open throughout the movement while the passage 8, 10 remain closed. The position of the pin is adjustable by a Bowden-wire to any position between these extremes.
