Abstract

155,869. Grace, C. J. Aug. 1, 1919. Addition to 144,363. Spray carburettors. -The parent Specification describes a carburettor in which the throttle valve is mounted on a tube to the interior of which fuel is supplied, a number of passages leading from the tube to the periphery of the valve, the tube being slotted to bring more or less passages into action in accordance with the throttle position. The invention consists in placing a block 3 in the induction pipe on the engine side of the throttle valve 2, the block containing a number of fuel-passages 4, a greater or lesser number of which may be brought into action by producing relative rotation between the block and slotted tube or casing by means of variable linkage mechanism connected with the throttle valve. An arm 9 on the tube 7, Figs. 1 and 2, is connected through a link 10 with a pin 11, which may be moved by a Bowden wire 14 along a slotted arm 13 of a bell-crank lever 16 on the throttle-valve spindle. Thus the number of fuel passages in action for any given opening of the throttle-valve may be varied. In a modification, the tube 7 is at the lower end of the block which, it is stated, may take the form of a sleeve. In a further modification, the block or sleeve opens at the constricted portion of an horizontal air passage. In a still further modification shown in Fig. 8, the block 3 is rotatable in a casing 19 the lower end of which communicates with the float chamber 6, the top of the casing being slotted. The block is made in two disc-like parts, one being blank and the other containing the fuel passages 4 connected by a transverse passage 20. As the block is rotated from the throttle valve 2, the passages 4 come progressively into action. Specification 8333/13 is referred to.
