Abstract

22,163. Girling, A. H. G. Oct. 2. Spray carburettors. - In a carburettor in which air, mixture, and fuel are controlled simultaneously by a rotatable throttle, the petrol is induced from the periphery to the centre of a narrow annular orifice by a jet of air, and rotation of the throttle causes axial movement of the fuel regulator. The air inlet g and mixture outlet h are controlled by the rotatable throttle i provided with an actuating-lever m, which is adjust ably connected by a bolt n to a lever e on the screwed fuel regulator d, which works in conjunction with a nozzle c to which air is admitted from the passage b. The area of the air and mixture passage is further controlled by a piston j actuated by a Bowden wire k. Independent adjustment of the petrol may be effected by the nut o. In a modification, the axes of the throttle and fuel regulator are at right-angles, and an eccentric or cam connexion between the two is employed. In a further modification, two fuels are supplied from separate float-chambers, the particular fuel in use depending on the position of the throttle. The Provisional Specification states also that starting and running on paraffin only may be effected by igniting the paraffin and producing partial combustion, and that air only may be admitted to the engine when the throttle is closed.
