Abstract

4343. Morton, H. S., and Anderson, L. Feb. 22. Spray carburettors.- The air and mixture throttle valves and the fuel valve are actuated simultaneously; the fuel valve may be independently adjusted. The main passage of the carburettor has an air-inlet 11 and mixture - outlet 12, and is interrupted by two concentric cylindrical throttle valves 14, 15, with closed upper ends between which is a piece 57 engaging pins on these closed ends, so that movement of one of the valves in one direction produces motion of the other valve in the reverse direction. The valves may be adjusted by a handle 33 fixed to a rotatable cap 30 working over a flange 31 on the casing 25 of the carburettor. Fuel is admitted to the float chamber 39 through :a valve 43 controlled by floats 49. The fuel nozzle is shown at 84, and the supply to this nozzle is regulated by a valve 55, to the upper end of which is pivoted a lever 59, one end 60 of which is pivoted to the casing 30, the other end being guided by a slot 62 in an adjustable block 63 secured in position by a nut 68. By altering the inclination of this slot, the fuel valve 55 is adjusted relatively to the valves 14, 15. The block is adjusted by worm gearing actuated by milled heads 73. Spraying of the fuel is produced by compressed air or other fluid admitted by a pipe 80 and issuing through a nozzle 78 on to the fuel-nozzle 84. Atmospheric air is admitted through a grating 81. The floats may be depressed at starting to flood the carburettor.
