20,502. Hamilton, B. T. Sept. 14. Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-In spray carburettors for internal-combustion engines, the nozzles A, Fig. 4, or the valve D, Fig. 5, controlling the outlet from the nozzle, is mounted on a flexible diaphragm B so as to diminish the nozzle area as 'the suction pressure falls below the pressure' bf the fuel supply. In the former case, the fuel is fed to the underatde of the diaphragm, which is held down by a spring G, the compression of which may be adjusted. The valve spindle is screwed so as to be adjustable, and is held in position by clamping together the divided nut e. The inlet and outlet to the mixing-chamber may be controlled by a throttle-valve f<1>, Fig. 5. With the valve mounted on the diaphragm, the outside of the latter is enclosed in a casing connected to the fuel-supply tank. The valve D may be flat or pointed; and interchangeable spindles with points of different sizes may be used. The movemeut of the diaphragm may be transmitted to the valve or nozzle through levers in order to magnify the effect; and the height of the nozzle may be adjustable.
