Abstract
17,176. Constantinesco, G., and Haddon, W. July 20. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external. - The fuel supply to a vaporizer or spray carburettor is made to depend upon two factors, one of which is dependent on the suction in the inlet pipe, while the other is independent of suction and is constant. A float b maintains in the chamber a a head of fuel sufficient at least to overcome the surface tension at the outlet orifice g. This orifice, which may supply a spraying-nozzle n<1> or lead to the supplypips of a vaporizer, is controlled by a needle valve f carried by a large diaphragm h which communicates with the induction pipe o through a conduit j controlled by a screw q. Holas p between the outlet g and nozzle n<1> admit air which assists in breaking up the fuel. With this apparatus, the fuel is fed chiefly by gravity at low suction, while at high suction the feed takes place under gravity and suction combined. A guard l protects the diaphragm from splashed fuel and from injury due to back-firing.
