Abstract
17,148. Morgan, W., and Wood, E. B. July 23. Spray carburettors.- In addition to the fuel supplied through the ordinary nozzle, a constant supply of the same fuel in the form of vapour, produced solely or partly by external heat, is fed to the induction pipe on the engine side of the carburettor throttle valve. Mixture produced by air passing the nozzle 2 is baffled by a helical plug d, and passes to the engine through the throttle valve g. The float chamber m which supplies the nozzle 2, also supplies fuel to an annular chamber w, Fig. 6, which is heated internally and externally by exhaust gases or hot water in the space u. The vapour formed passes through the pipe y to a chamber k, Fig. 1, and thence-to the engine The supply to the chamber w is regulated by small orifices q, s and a well o communicating with the chamber m. At starting, the fuel falls in the well o, and, if the level gets below the orifice s, some air bubbles through. When at the level s, the fuel is delivered at a constant rate. The carburettor is jacketed at b.
