Abstract

112,962. Southey, A. W. Nov. 28, 1916. Spray carburettors. - Fuel, in excess of the quantity required by the engine, is sprayed through a comparatively large bore nozzle B, situated below the normal fuel level, into a mixing chamber A of large cross-section compared with the induction pipe. Owing to the reduction of the velocity of the mixture in the chamber A, the larger fuel particles, or those not taken up by the air, fall to the bottom of the chamber and return through an aperture G to the float chamber E and are used again, a constant circulation of fuel being set up. When at rest, fuel flows through the nozzle B and accumulates in the chamber A, choke tube C, and air inlet D to the level indicated by the dotted line. Additional air to form the explosive mixture is admitted through a valve in the end of the throttle valve F.
