Abstract

Spray carburettors.-The fuel-nozzle comprises a tube a having a longitudinal slot a<1> and an orifice in its base through which the fuel is sprayed without the use of primary air, the air entering the carburettor at the side of the tube remote from the slot, and the mixture leaving at the side facing the slot; loss of fuel through the air-orifice is thus prevented. The carburettor shown in Fig. 3 has two D-slides b, b<1>, which control respectively the admission of air and the passage of fuel through the slot. The latter also acts as a throttle for the mixture outlet. Portions b<3>, b<4> may be cut away at the lower ends of these slides to form a decreasing passage from the air inlet to the mixture outlet which acts as a choke-tube. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the lower ends of the slides are recessed as shown, to avoid excessive suction on the jet when they are lowered. An aperture b<2> is preferably provided on the throttle slide for slow running, and there may be a similar aperture on the air-control slide.
