Abstract
104,221. Couffinhal, A. F. March 1, 1916. Addition to 5475/15, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for]. Seats and valve members.-The tubular throttle valve 10 of a carburettor has extending across it, between the circular ports, a separate channel 13 of small depth and of such a width as to occupy about onehalf the cross-sectional area of the throttle valve. The channel 13 which forms a preliminary mixing chamber for air and fuel entering through inlets 23 and nozzles 18, divides the outlet of the throttle valve into two approximately semicircular portions 12, 12<1>, Fig. 5, and extends beyond the edge of the outlet at 14 to form a by-pass notch. The base of the channel has an air inlet orifice 26, the bulk of the air entering at 3<1>, Fig. 3, when the throttle is opened, and diluting the mixture from the channel 13 as it enters the outlet 5. In a modification, the channel is located wholly on one side of a diameter of the valve.
