Abstract

183,205. Weslake, H. April 12, 1921. Spray carburettors.-A flat nozzle is provided on one side with air inlets near its outlet end so that air passes through the outlet slot on the suction stroke. The nozzle comprises two parallel parts a, b enclosing a space d in communication with a thinner outlet slot c. The width of the space d may be uniform or tapered as shown in Fig. 1. The top edge of the nozzle is curved to fit the throttle valve so that the area of the jet is varied as the throttle is moved. A slot or a series of slots or holes f is formed in the wall a to put the slot c in communication with the interior of a casing g open at the bottom. A pilot-jet j, which enters a slot in the leading edge of the throttle, is fed from the main nozzle through a passage l below the normal level of the fuel in the nozzle. As the throttle is opened the level of the fuel falls and the pilot-jet is cut out. The invention is particularly applicable to the carburettor described in Specification 144,785.
