Abstract

277,304. Rebillet, M. J. A. Sept. 11, 1926, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-Fuel is supplied by an engine-driven centrifugal pump 4 to a nozzle 12 and passes through a small hole into the intake pipe 24 of the engine, the air supply to which is controlled by a valve 3. The fuel is supplied to the pump from a constant level chamber 9 through a pipe 10. the outlet of the nozzle 12 being situated at the level of the fuel in the chamber 9. The outlet pipe 7 of the pump communicates with the intake pipe 10, thus forming an endless circuit, and is provided preferably at its highest point, with a pipe 11 leading to the nozzle 12. The part of the pipe 7 between the line 23 and the intake pipe 10 may be omitted. A spring-loaded slide valve 13 provided with an orifice 15 is arranged in a casing 14 situated on the pipe 7 between the outlet of the pump and the pipe 11, pipes 16, 17 communicating respectively with the outlet and intake pipes 7, 10, opening into one end of the casing, and a pipe 18 connected to the intake pipe 10 opening into the other end of the casing. As the speed of the engine increases, the valve 13 is moved by the pressure in space 14 to decrease the fuel passage. The valve 13 may be situated on the pipe 7 between the pipes 11, 10, e.g. at the position X, in which case it is arranged to open as the engine speed increases. A valve 20 is provided on the pipes 16 and is interconnected with the air valve 3 so that as one opens the other closes, the opening of the valve 20 increasing the pressure in the space 14 so that the valve 13 decreases the fuel passages 7. The valve 20 may be situated on the pipe 17. e.g. at the position Y, in which case it opens as the valve 3 opens. A valve 22 which may be controlled barometrically, may be provided on the pipe 11. The intake 24 may be supplied with gases other than air, e.g. poor gas.
