Abstract

Spray carburettors.-In carburettors provided with a main sprayer and a by-pass or slow-running duct, an additional sprayer is provided to supply fuel during the period of picking up and until the main sprayer is in action. The main sprayer c is arranged horizontally and above the constant fuel level and is fed from the float chamber d through an orifice e, and has in its wall a calibrated orifice i which delivers above the constant level into an annular passage k which surrounds the main sprayer and communicates with the by-pass g which delivers at h on the engine side of the throttle valve b. With the throttle closed, air and fuel enter the passage g and keep the engine running slowly. On opening the throttle, the flow of the emulsified fuel is reversed, and it is discharged through the passage k and serves to keep the engine running until the suction is sufficient to bring the sprayer c into action.
