Abstract

11,969. Dicker, S. G. S., [Stromberg Motor Devices Co.]. May 22. Spray carburettors. - The carburettor is of the type in which an auxiliary nozzle delivers fuel into the induction pipe on the' engine side of the throttle, from an auxiliary reservoir which is supplied, through a calibrated opening, from the passage leading to the main nozzle. The casing 4 is water-jacketed at 6 and contains a choketube 12 into which extends the main nozzle 19 supplied through, and removble by unscrewing, a plug 20 with restricted orifice 21. This plug may be replaced by a longer plug as shown in Fig. 3, so as to vary the resistance to the flow of fuel. The auxiliary nozzle 33 extends beyond the throttle 10 and into an auxiliary reservoir 25 fed through the restricted passage 27. The auxiliary reservoir is open at the top to a chamber 28 which surrounds the choke-tube 12 and communicates through an orifice 31 with the atmosphere and through orifices 29, 30 with the mixing-chamber. The chamber 25 is surrounded by a well 22 communicating through an orifice 23' with the atmosphere and through an orifice 23 with the main nozzle 19. The casing 4 is provided with a shelf 14 which supports the float-chamber 15. At small throttle openings, fuel is supplied by the nozzle 33 and the reservoir 25 gradually becomes emptied. At increased opening, the nozzle 19 and well 22 become operative, and when the suction becomes most energetic, these become emptied and fuel is supplied through the passage 21 by the combined action of the suction. through the nozzle 19 and the rush of air through the passage 23. An opening 16 in the float-chamber ensures atmospheric pressure on the top of the fuel.
