Abstract
105,904. Claudel, C. H. March 15, 1916, [Convention. date]. Spray carburettors.-Float chambers of carburettors are provided with means for closing automatically the channel communicating with the atmosphere, and that leading to the fuel nozzle, and thereby preventing escape of fuel and risk of fire in the event of the float mechanism failing, or the fioat chamber being out of its normal position. The float chamber communicates with the atmosphere through an aperture 1, Fig. 1, and a channel 2 which is controlled by a valve 3 carried by a small float 4. The passage leading to the nozzle 5 has a downward extension containing a ball valve 6 which becomes seated at 7 in the event of the carburettor becoming so inclined as otherwise to flood the nozzle. A small by-pass to the seat 7 may be provided to prevent complete stoppage of the flow of fuel. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the ball valve is replaced by a plug valve 9 actuated by a weight 10. A further modification is described in which the top of the float chamber communicates with the induction pipe instead of with the atmosphere.
