Abstract

138,177. Dodson, E. Feb. 13, 1919. Addition to 125,687. Spray carburettors.-The invention described in the parent Specification consists in inducing into a carburettor having a primary and secondary air supply, an additional fuel supply by the suction of the primary-air supply at or near its period and zone of highest air velocity, i.e. at or near the full throttle-valve opening, and the present invention consists in bringing this additional fuel supply into action at substantially the full throttle opening by mechanical means actuated by the throttle valve. The main fuel supply discharges into the secondary-air tube 30. The additional fuel supply which discharges into the main air passage at 15, is controlled by a valve 52 actuated by the throttle valve 7 through a cam 57, lever 55, and rod 53, or equivalent means such as an eccentric and strap. In a modification, the diffuser-air pipe 45, shown in Fig. 4, of the parent Specification, is adapted to be controlled by a passage in a barrel throttle valve in such a manner that, as the throttle is about to reach its fully open position, the pipe 45 is placed under the suction effect and air is withdrawn from the fuel well. In this modification, the fuel-supply passage 14, 15 may also be included and controlled by the throttle valve. The secondary-air tube 30 may be dispensed with and a nozzle placed at the end of the tube 32, Fig. 4, of the parent Specification. The valve 52 may control the diffuser air.
