Abstract

176,118. Russel, E. W. Nov. 29, 1920. Spray carburettors.-Light and heavy fuel mixtures may be supplied separately or in combination, the control of the mixtures being effected bv a valve actuated from the throttle valve and adjustable relatively thereto. Light and heavy fuel reservoirs supply nozzles 6, 7, Fig. 1, the air tubes around which discharge into an horizontal tube 8 connected at 9 with the induction pipe. A disc valve 10 determines whether the light or heavy fuel carburettor, or both, are in action. This valve is mounted on a rod 11, provided with stops 12 and actuated from the throttle-valve spindle 13 through a disc 16, Fig. 2, loosely mounted on the spindle and carrying an arm 17, and a resilient connection consisting of a pin 18 passing through the spindle and connected by a spring 19 to the disc. When the piston is in its extreme left-hand position, further movement of the throttle merely extends the spring. The rod 11 is returned by a spring 13 bearing against a cap at either the right or left-hand end thereof. The valve 10 may be made adjustable relatively to the throttle valve by providing the arm 17 with an adjustable extension 22, Fig. 2. which bears upon the cap 14 of the rod 11. To ensure that heavy fuel shall not be brought into action too soon after starting, a stop 23, Fig. 1, actuated from the dashboard, may be interposed in the path of the rod 11. In a modification, the disc valve 10 is replaced by a flap valve. The extra air supply may be controlled bv the throttle as described in Specification 176,301.
