Abstract

205,962. Grafton, W. F. Sept. 23, 1922. Spray carburettors. -A suction-actuated valve H of light construction works in conjunction with an adjustable choke tube C and carries a needle valve K with slotted portion K<1> to control the fuel flow through the tube E, the fuel valve being pressed to its seat, to cut off the fuel supply, by the weight of the valve H when suction ceases. No float chamber is employed and alternative fuels may be supplied through a three-way cock M. The fuel is sprayed into the main air current through an annular slit or a number of orifices J<1> in the valve head, and the proportion of fuel to air may be varied by admitting a variable quantity of air to the interior of the valve head through an orifice controlled by a needle valve L. This air passes upwardly in a space Z between a tube S and the exterior of the fuel tube E. At the higher values of the suction. the lifting of the valve H is resisted by a spring R which contacts with an adjustable stop P and rests on an adjustable nut Q at the lower end of the valve stem. The choke tube C can be adjusted axially by a bolt D thereon being moved in a cam slot X in the wall of the casing A.
