Abstract

286. Cavalli, C. Jan. 5. Spray carburettors.-Correct composition of the mixture, which has a slight excess of fuel for starting and accelerating, is obtained by surrounding the fuel nozzle by two or more tubes which are connected to reservoirs open to the atmosphere. The nozzle 12, the outlet from which is below the normal fuel level, is supplied from the float chamber 4 through a passage 10 controlled by a valve 22, and is surrounded by tubes 13, 14 connected respectively to reservoirs 21, 19. The tube 13 is perforated at 17, 18. When there is no suction or only slight suction, the tubes and reservoirs are filled with fuel up to the normal level, and efficient spraying is obtained through the narrow space between the tube 14 and baffle 15. As the throttle 3 is opened and the suction increases, the tubes become emptied, and air is drawn through them, the injector action of which upon the nozzle 12 compensates for the retardation of the fuel-flow produced by frictional resistance at the valve 22.
