Abstract
118,626. Mock, F. C. Aug. 24, 1917, [Convention date] Spray carburettors.-The carburettor comprises an annular starting and accelerating well around the main fuel supply passage; two Venturi choke-tubes one within the other, and a starting-nozzle adjacent the edge of the throttle valve. Air entering at 11 is controlled by a valve 14 and passes fuel orifices 46 in a choke-tube 45 and through the annular space between such tube and a second Venturi tube 13, the mixture leaving at 12 past a valve 16. Fuel from the float chamber 19 is controlled by a valve 35 and passes to an axial passage 32 and, through holes 37, to the annular accelerating-well 29 formed in a thimble 24, communication being established through the chamber and axial passage by a series of holes 38 at different levels. The accelerating-well and axial passage are in communication with the atmosphere through holes 41, 39 and passage 39<1> in an adjustable plug 40. A tube 27 communicates with the fuel space 33 through a hole 42 and conveys fuel at starting to the nozzle 48, which is adjacent the edge of the throttle valve 16 and is set back slightly from the inner surface of the mixing-chamber. The starting-nozzle receives its air supply from the choketube 13 through a conduit 49<1> controlled by a screwed valve 51. The fuel level in the accelerating-well adjusts itself to the degree of suction transmitted thereto, falling as the suction i,ncreases, and vice versa. Specifications 11969/13 and 110,807 are referred to.
