Abstract

14,515. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, [Browne, A. B.]. June 23. Spray carburettors.-In a spray carburettor, the primary air supply enters the mixing- chamber through a Venturi tube 2 in which is arranged an inclined fuel nozzle (not shown) without mechanical control, and supplementary air is admitted through a valve 12 actuated by a diaphragm 17 in a vacuum chamber 16 communicating with the primary air inlet by a short tube 18. The vacuum in the chamber 16 depends upon the velocity of the air passing the orifice 18, and the quantity of fuel drawn from the jet depends upon this same velocity. The valve 12, or its seating, is so curved, and the strength of the spring 14 is so chosen, that the total quantity of air passing through the primary and supplementary air inlets is in direct proportion to the quantity of fuel drawn in.
