Abstract

23,387. Ellehammer, J. C. Hansen-. Dec. 1. Vaporizers, external.-Liquid fuel is drawn by suction of the engine from tanks 14, 15 through a vaporizer 5, 6, disposed in the exhaust passage 9, to a casing 3, where it mixes with the main air supply drawn in through the valve 1 controlled by a stiff spring 2. A small quantity of air to assist the passage of the fuel through the vaporizer may be admitted by orifices 20. The vaporizer comprises a tube 6 leading to a chamber 8, and a series of pipes 5 which may be arranged around the pipe 6 and leading from the chamber 8 to a chamber 7. The area of the vaporizing-passages is so much greater than that of the fuel pipe that vaporization is not accompanied by increase of pressure, Light fuel can be supplied from one of the tanks 14, 15 for starting, and this can be gradually turned off and heavier fuel from the other tank simultaneously be turned on by the cock 16 with passageways 17, 18.
