Abstract
129,380. Higginson, J., and Arundel, H. Nov. 12, 1917. Vacuum apparatus.-In liquid-fuel supply apparatus for internal-combustion engines wherein fuel is raised by suction from a main to an auxiliary tank, means are provided whereby a ready supply of fuel or carburetted air may be obtained for starting. The chamber a is in communication with the vessel into which the fuel is raised, and a branch fitting b therefrom supports a tube c open to the atmosphere at h and communicating with the suction conduit c through an inner tube f with control cock g. The flow of fuel to the tube c may be controlled by a needle valve d which may, however, be replaced by a very small aperture. Fuel passes to the carburettor by way of the outlet j. In a modifica.- tion, the tube f is open to the atmosphere at its upper end, and the tube c is connected to the suction conduit so that carburetted air will always be supplied instead of, as in the former construction, fuel at first and carburetted air afterwards.
