Abstract

[Cognate Application, 18,261/13.] Spray carburettors. - The air-intake to the carburettor of a motor vehicle, boat, or aeroplane is in the form of a funnel and faces in the direction of motion so that the mixture is supplied under pressure, and, by an early opening of the inlet valve, may be used for scavenging. The casing a, Fig. 1, is fitted with the funnel-shaped air-intake c and with a disk throttle-valve l. Fuel is supplied to, the nozzle d by air or exhaust pressure and is controlled by a valve e actuated by a Bowden wire h. This form of carburettor may be used in conjunction with an ordinary float-feed carburettor as shown in Fig. 3. The float-feed carburettor has a throttle m between which and the throttle l of the above-described carburettor the nozzle n is placed. The valve l may therefore control air to the float-feed carburettor, or may control mixture to be added to that of the float-feed carburettor, according to the position of the fuel valve c, Fig. 1, which should be closed at starting. The float-chamber o may be supplied under pressure, and the supply may be automatically cut off when the nozzle d is partly or fully open.
