Abstract
189,265. Benton, J. W. Sept. 7, 1921. Latches, sliding; reversible latches; locks, springs for; lock mechanism, tumbler type.-In a lock having both a latch bolt and a lock bolt, the spring appertaining to the latch bolt also controls the tumblers of the lock bolt, and the spring appertaining to the tumblers controls the latch bolt, so that the lock is still operative if either of the springs break. In the form shown, the latch bolt a is pivoted to a swinging lever b in such a way that it can be reversed for right or left hand doors. Secured to this lever b is a spring i which engages under the stud on the lock tumbler f pivoted at g. This spring serves both to control the tumbler and also to control the latch bolt. The tumbler f has a spring k attached which bears on a lug c on the plate b, and. also controls both tumbler and latch.
