Abstract

Keys ; night-latches ; lock mechanism, masterkey.-In pin-tumbler locks wherein the non- rotatable key engages a fixed block carried by the casing 1 and the pins and springs are mounted in a sliding bolt 4 actuated by a handle 7, the bolt pins are duplicated so that the bolt can be held in both the withdrawn and shot positions and released only by the key for opposite movement. In bolt-locks, the handle 7 engages the bolt 4, but in night-latches, the handle engages a slide 19 having a lug 21 which actuates a lug 22 on the latch 16, the slide carrying the pins and springs and the bolt carrying intermediate tumblers in an upper arm 23. In the form shown, the bolt has a spring 25 so that it is withdrawn on the insertion of a key without operating the handle. Additional keyholes 10', 10<11> may be provided for trustee keys. The bolt may have a lower arm 24 carrying pins and springs engaged by the underneath edge of the key, which, for use from either side of the lock, may be symmetrical, with or without inver. sion. Fig. 7 shows an invertible key.
