Abstract

185,309. Fawick, T. L. Aug. 8, 1921. Clutches, friction.-In plate clutches, a clutch plate 15 sliding on pins 16 in a driving- member 25 is gripped between a plate 12 fixed on a sleeve 9 secured to the driven shaft and a plate 10 sliding on the sleeve, independent rotation of the plates 10, 12 being prevented by pins 20. The clutch is actuated for engagement by a sliding cone 3 and levers 5 pivoted on a nut 8 screwing on the sleeve 9 and for disengagement by strong springs 31 arranged between the plates 10, 12. Weaker springs 23 are arranged between the plate 10 and the nut 8 and bear against balls 27 engaging depressions 26 in the plate 10, this arrangement allowing adjustment of the nut 8 to compensate for wear &c. and locking of the nut in its adjusted position.
