Clutches, friction.-In coil clutches operated by auxiliary cone clutches for use with wire-drawing machines &c., the coil F is secured by a single or double head K to a driving-disk T and by a head K' to a clutch cone B, which is adapted to be engaged by a cone E sliding on but turning with the driven shaft W<2>. Engagement of the clutch B, E tightens the coil F on a drum M on the shaft W<2>. To prevent axial strain on the coil during operation of the clutch B, E, the cone B has a flange X and carries screws S loosely engaging a flange Y on a sleeve H secured to the disk T: Adjustable abutments G on the sleeve H prevent injury to the coil if the direction of drive is reversed.
