Clutches, claw.-In a dog clutch, the centre plane e f, Fig. 1, of the clutch groove c is displaced parallel to the corresponding radial plane e<2>, f<2> of the shaft a in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation so that the clutch dog d penetrates at its pressure surface k more deeply into the shaft than on the face i struck by the driving hub b. Rotation is counterclockwise. The dog d may be one arm of a lever d<2>, Fig. 3, adapted to be turned to the disengaged position by a sliding cam sleeve p. Spring bolts q may be provided to lessen shock in engagement.
