Abstract

291,848. John, F. March 4, 1927. Clutches, claw.-In rotary-key clutches for presses &c., of the kind comprising a locking- element for preventing over-running of the driven shaft, the driving-key and locking-element are connected by means imparting an increased movement to the locking-element, in order to ensure adequate engagement thereof even when the driving-key engages only the edge of its recess. The arms 8, Fig. 3, of the driving-key 1 is of greater length than the arm 9 of the locking- key 2, the. arms being in direct engagement or coupled by a link 7, as shown. The arm 9 and key 2 may be connected rigidly or by a lug 16 engaging a recess in a disc 14, the lost motion normally being taken up by a spring 15, under the tension of which the key 2, when released by the key 1, engages a recess in the driving wheel, disengagement being positive. Fig. 5 shows a modification, in which a pin 22 engages a slot 21 in the link 7, which is adjustably secured to the arm 8 of the key 1. Motion of the key 2 is limited by stops 19, 20 and shoulders 17, 18. Alternatively, the link 7 may be telescopic. The edges of the driving-wheel recesses which engage the driving-key may be slightly bevelled off, or the engagement of the locking- element may otherwise be arranged to lead on that of the driving-key. The invention is applicable also to the controlling-detent for the locking- key described in Specification 150,963.
