Abstract
145,695. Seigneur, L. June 30, 1919, [Convention date]. Blocks acting on drums.-In expanding-segment friction clutches and brakes, balls or rollers 6 are carried in slots in a flange 13 on a sleeve 2 secured to the shaft 1 and are pressed by a sliding cone sleeve 5 into contact with cam surfaces 14 on the clutch or brake segments 4 which are connected to the sleeve 2 by an endless spring 7 secured to stops 8 on the segments and to stops 9 passing through slots in the segments and secured to the sleeve 2. The segments are forced against the drum 3 forming the other member of the clutch or brake and are tightened automatically by the action of the cams 14 if slip occurs.
