Abstract

249,818. Kecheur, A. March 25, 1925, [Convention date]. Blocks and shoes acting on drums.-The brake shoes are free to turn to a limited extent with the drum and are fixed against the drum by compression links mounted on fixed centres or by fixed cam surfaces. As shown in Fig. 2 the shoes 3, 4 hinged together at 5 are adapted to be expanded by a cam 14 mounted on an arm 13 free to turn between fixed stops on the axis of the brake drum 1. Links 8, 9 extend between the shoes and a fixed member 10. The cam 14 is operated by an arm 16 and pull rod 15 and the shoes if applied thereby to the drum when it is rotating in the direction of the arrow are carried around with the drum to a limited extent and the links 8, 9 turn about their pivots on the member 10 in such a manner as to force the shoes against the drum. If the drum is rotating in the reverse direction the links are ineffective. According to a modification Fig. 5, the links are replaced by fixed cam surfaces 21 upon which ride rollers 19, 20 on the brake shoes.
