Abstract

214,564. Hilton, G. T. Aug. 1, 1923. Blocks and shoes acting on drums; applied by springs. - Brake mechanism for road vehicles comprises a number of blocks 9 carried by radial stems 7 guided at their inner and outer extremities by links 10 or, as shown, by an outer link 10 and a slot in a central boss 6 on the fixed plate 5. The blocks are actuated by links 14 connected to a rotatable plate 13 provided with a projection 15 which passes through a slot in the plate 5 and to which the hand lever or pedal is connected. The application of the blocks to the drum may be assisted by springs disposed on the stems 7 as described in Specification 211,261. In this way a moderate braking action may be obtained by the pressure of the springs alone, this pressure being increased when desired by the pedal or hand lever.
