Abstract
211,261. Hilton, G. T. Nov. 30, 1922. Blocks acting on drums actuated or applied by springs.- The blocks are carried on radially disposed slidable spokes and are acted upon bv springs which tend to force the blocks into engagement with the braking surface. The spokes 7 carrying the blocks 8 slide at their inner ends in a boss 6 on a fixed disc 5 while their outer ends are pivoted to a link 10 connected at one end to the disc 5 by a pivot 11. Each link is extended at 12 and connected by a link 14 to a rotatable plate 13. Helical springs 16 surrounding the spokes force the blocks 8 outwards. The plate 13 may be actuated by any suitable mechanism, a projection 15 extending through a slot in the fixed plate 5 for the purpose. One or more springs may be dispensed with or leaf springs may be substituted' for spiral springs. Instead of the spokes sliding in the boss 6 at their inner ends, they may be connected to tie plate 5 at their ends by links which are parallel to the links 10. In a modification, the plate 13 may have inclined faces adapted to co-operate with corresponding inclined faces on the stems 7 for withdrawing the brake blocks.
