Abstract

176,786. Bryan, W. G. March 8, 1921, [Convention date]. Blocks acting on drums.-In a brake for motor vehicles, the internal brake shoes 13 are actuated bv toggle levers 23, 24, connected by links 27 with levers 29 pivoted at 30. The levers 29 are attached by links 32 to a T-piece 34 on the end of the brake rock-shaft. One arm 23 of each toggle is made adjustable for taking up wear by a turnbuckle 25. A tension spring 31 is interposed between the levers to prevent rattle when the brake is off. The brake shoes are guided radially and held against rotation by lugs 18 engaging fixed pins 16, 17. In the off position the shoes are held against fixed stops 19. The levers 29 may be actuated by a double-faced cam on the brake rock-shaft instead of by the linkage 34, 32.
