Abstract

223,907. Soc. Anon. des Etablissements Ballot. Oct. 22, 1923, [Convention date]. Clutches, friction.-A device applicable to limit the action of vehicle brakes comprises, between the brake drum and the wheels, a clutch which is controlled by a flywheel, which is free to rotate to a limited extent, whereby the torque exerted by the inertia of the flywheel when the road wheels are checked wholly or partially disengages the clutch. The brake drum 3 is integral with one member 4 of a clutch, the other members consisting of a flange 14 and a ring 5 pressed together by spring-mounted bolts 7. The wheel hub 1 carries inclines 10 which co-operate with inclines 11 on a flywheel 6, so that, should the brake be suddenly applied and cause the wheels to skid, the flywheel will ease the clutch and allow the road wheels to rotate. Modifications are described for mechanically actuating the clutch and further modifications are described in which the clutch is actuated bv electrical and hydraulic means.
